FGCU makes efforts in conserving biodiversity in Florida

More than two-thirds of planet Earth’s wildlife could go extinct by the end of the decade, according to a new report from the World Wildlife Fund. Animals are thus in danger on even FGCU’s campus, which is built on preserved land. “From a global perspective, it’s pretty clear we are in our sixth mass extinction,” FGCU  biology professor John Herman said. “Extinction is a natural process, along with evolution. Making shelter life better

FGCU students are spreading awareness about animal homelessness while partnering with the Gulf Coast Humane Society. As part of professor Jessica Rhea’s group project for a civic engagement course, students have partnered with the GCHS with the goal of making shelter life better for animals and promoting the dogs for adoption. “GCHS is all about the community,” said Jenna Walther, a GCHS volunteer. “We have two low-cost clinics that are open to the public, which helps people keep their pets up to date on vaccines and spayed/neutered. The new FX series “Atlanta” finished its ten-episode first season, with its season finale airing Nov. 1. “Atlanta” began airing on television Sept. 6, and has offered television viewers a unique, fresh perspective about a young black man trying to make a better life for himself in rural Atlanta, all while trying to support his daughter and the mother of his child. The FGCU swimming and diving team defeated two of its three opponents at the FGCU Quad Meet that took place Nov 4 and 5 at the FGCU Aquatics Complex. ‘Logan’ to be final film in ‘Wolverine’ franchise

20th Century Fox released the trailer for the upcoming film “Logan.” The film is based on the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. This will be the third and final installment to the stand-alone “Wolverine” franchise and the tenth installment overall to the “X-Men” film series. The trailer shows Hugh Jackman returning to play the superhero for one last run, while Patrick Stewart reprises the role of Professor Xavier. The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team defeated four of their five opponents in the UCLA Meet at UCLA’s Spieker Aquatics Center on Oct. 22.
