Granting sanctuary, not sanctifying grants

FGCU is known for taking a stand on many issues, ranging from student loans to the environmental protections. This month, Student Government at FGCU began to take steps to help make FGCU a sanctuary school. FGCU is the closest university to the city of Immokalee, where workers are brought in from Central America to work in the tomato fields. Sanctuary schools are institutions of higher learning that model sanctuary cities, in the effort of not allowing the Immigration Customs Enforcement, or any federal organizations, to deport undocumented immigrants. Orlando hosts Republican presidential candidates at College Republicans Sunshine Summit

Orlando hosted 14 Republican presidential candidates for the Sunshine Summit from Nov. 12 to 14 at the Rosen Shingle Creek resort. During the summit, the candidates were able to express their beliefs and plans of action to more than 2,500 people who attended. Among the presidential candidates in attendance,  past Republican figures such as former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney were in attendance. College Republicans attend Lee County Republican Executive Committee Meeting

Instead of having a meeting Monday, Oct. 19, the FGCU College Republicans attended the Lee County Republican Executive Committee Meeting, which had U.S. Rep. Curt Clawson as a guest speaker. The meeting was held at the Burroughs Home Pavilion in Fort Myers and offered the club’s members many opportunities to network with elected officials and candidates for office in Lee County.
