Cross-country earns recognition post championship

Top finishes at USF Invitational for FGCU cross-country

Carley Lutzow and Carlin Berryhill each had top five finishes, leading the FGCU cross-country teams in the USF Invitational. In the 5K, Lutzow finished in third place with a time of 18:17.6. Berryhill led the men’s team in the 8K, finishing with a fourth-place time of 25:56.4. “I’m happy with the team’s effort,” FGCU head coach Cassandra Goodson said. “We had a few people have big breakthroughs. The conditions were not ideal for fast times, so we just focused on effort and competing. We are looking forward to getting home and back to work.” In the men’s 8K, all five runners finished in the top 41. Jan Figueroa and Cole Pruim finished in the top 20, with Figueroa finishing with a 16th place time of 27:22.3 and Pruim’s time of 27:26.6 to put him in 17th. Other notable finishes were Joseph Salerno’s 40th place time of 28:46.7, and Maximilian Weigand’s 41st finish of 28:49.4. Preview: Men’s and women’s cross-country at USF Invitational

The FGCU men’s and women’s cross team will compete in the USF Invitational Friday, Oct. 13 beginning at 5 p.m. in Tampa. The team will be coming off competing in the Notre Dame Invitational. At that invitational, Carlin Berryhill posted a time of 25:13.9, placing 18th in the men’s 5 Mile Gold race. Running in just their second race of the season after Hurricane Irma hit Florida, the men’s and women’s cross-country team placed seventh and 14th (respectively) in the UF Mountain Dew Invitational. The men finished the day with 229 points and were less than 10 points back of both Stetson and Miami and well back of first place North Florida. The FGCU men’s cross-country team will compete in the ASUN Preview Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. The team will be coming off competing in the FAU Invitational where they placed second just 10 points behind in-state rival Miami. Matching its program-best 17th place finish in the NCAA South Region Cross Country Championship, the FGCU men’s and women’s cross country team concluded the 2016 campaign on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Apalachee Regional Park. The FGCU men’s cross country team matched its program record, finishing third at the ASUN Championships, while the women placed fifth, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. FGCU’s men’s team totaled 68 points, as Luka Ndunga finished third overall, marking the best individual finish in program history.
