Men’s Golf Concludes Season with Eighth Place Finish

Senior Grant Renegar led the FGCU men’s golf team with a top five finish overall and an eighth place finish at Loyola Marymount’s Geiberger Invitational, hosted by Loyola Marymount University. The Eagles were three shots behind San Diego as they finished with a final score of 879 (299-286-294), but finished 13 shots ahead of fellow conference member Stetson (892: 310-294-288). The eventual winner of the tournament was Brigham Young as they finished with a final score of 856 (290-284-282). The FGCU women’s golf team concluded their regular season with a tenth place finish out of 13 teams in the Dale McNamara Invitational at Tulsa Country Club on Tuesday, hosted by the University of Tulsa. After a second place finish in the MSU Citrus Classic, Kate Williamson won her first-ever ASUN Player of the Week Award. “Kate played very solid for us this past week,” said head coach Sarah Trew. “I noticed a significant improvement in her mental game and the way she approached the course. The FGCU women’s golf team wrapped up with a third place finish out of all 14 teams that participated in the WKU Spring Break Shootout. The Eagles’ third place is the best of the year in non-match play format. The FGCU men’s golf team posted another strong performance in the final round of Stetson’s Legacy Intercollegiate at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes Tuesday. The Eagles completed the tournament tied for first before falling in a one-hole playoff to Bethune-Cookman. FGCU shot a final-round 296 – the second-best score of the day – to overcome a three-shot deficit entering the closing 18. After finishing sixth on day one of the Amelia Island Collegiate hosted by Jacksonville University, the FGCU women’s golf team (303-304-297—904 (+40)) finished tied for fourth place among 15 teams. FGCU Golf wins Inaugural Randy Grimes Classic

Back in action for the first time since Oct. 2017, the FGCU men’s golf team started the spring season off strong with a win at the Inaugural Randy Grimes Memorial Shootout at the Jack Nicolas-designed Corkscrew Golf Club. During the 36-hole tournament on Sunday, the Eagles as a team shot +26 for a total of 602. That was five strokes better than in-state rivals Jacksonville and FAU.
