Women’s Golf Bounces to Fourth in Amelia Island Collegiate

After finishing sixth on day one of the Amelia Island Collegiate hosted by Jacksonville University, the FGCU women’s golf team (303-304-297—904 (+40)) finished tied for fourth place among 15 teams. The Eagles tied with Jacksonville State (299-293-312—904 (+40)). Campbell University was the eventual winner of the tournament. FGCU Golf wins Inaugural Randy Grimes Classic

Back in action for the first time since Oct. 2017, the FGCU men’s golf team started the spring season off strong with a win at the Inaugural Randy Grimes Memorial Shootout at the Jack Nicolas-designed Corkscrew Golf Club. During the 36-hole tournament on Sunday, the Eagles as a team shot +26 for a total of 602. That was five strokes better than in-state rivals Jacksonville and FAU. The FGCU men’s golf team will return to action Randy Grimes Memorial Shootout on Feb. 11 at the Old Corkscrew Golf Course. In their first tournament of 2018, the FGCU women’s golf team finished as the runner up in the Women’s Mid-American Match Play Challenge to #22 Kent State. The Eagles won four of their five matches against Ohio University led by Ashley Kimbrough who won 7&5. The FGCU women’s golf team will begin its spring season in Lakewood Ranch, Florida for the Women’s Mid-American Match Play Challenge. The tournament will begin on Feb. 5 with 36 holes being played on Monday and then the final round will be on Tuesday, Feb. 6. After finishing in second a year ago at the ASUN Championships, the FGCU women’s golf team tied its program best second place finish at the 2017 ASUN Championship in Braselton, Georgia on Monday, April 17.
