To begin their play at the Triple Crown Sports Puerto Vallarta Challenge, the FGCU softball team split a pair of matchups. The Eagles defeated No. 21 Fresno State 4-3 to open the day but fell 10-8 to Texas Tech to end day one of the tournament. Softball heads to Mexico to participate in Triple Crown Sports Puerto Vallarta Challenge

The FGCU women’s softball team will head to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to face several top teams in the country in the Triple Crown Sports Puerto Vallarta Challenge. This pre-season tournament brings together several of the most accomplished teams in softball. The games are set to be played at the newly redone Nancy Almaraz Stadium. For the Eagles, play starts Thursday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. against Fresno State. This will be the first time these two teams will face each other. Softball opens season with four dominant wins over LIU Brooklyn

Opening the 2017 campaign hosting the FGCU Kickoff Classic, the FGCU softball team went a perfect 4-0 over the weekend defeating LIU-Brooklyn 7-0 and 8-0 on Friday, Feb. 10 and 9-1 and 8-0 on Saturday, Feb. 11. Originally slated to face-off against UConn to go along with their contest against the Blackbirds, the Huskies were unable to fly out of the area due to limited travel out of the northeast. Led by a trio of ASUN preseason All-Conference team members, the FGCU softball team welcomes the 2017 season with games against LIU-Brooklyn and UConn on Friday, Feb. 10. Coming off a 7-2 win over Jacksonville to claim the Atlantic Sun softball title, the Eagles turned their attention to the A-Sun tournament. Projected to finish sixth place in the preseason poll, the FGCU softball team secured the 2016 Atlantic Sun regular-season title with a 7-2 win over Jacksonville on Saturday. In game one of the three-game series, both offenses were held in the first inning, but FGCU broke through in the second. In a three-game battle against UNF and the weather, the FGCU softball team rode dominant pitching in the circle to clinch a spot in the Atlantic Sun Softball Championship and power through to the top of the standings in the A-Sun Conference.
