Eagles swept in double-header versus FIU

Playing in their final game before a week-long break, the FGCU softball teams struggled Wednesday in a double header and was swept while being outscored 12-2 in the two games. “Very lackluster effort in all phases by our team tonight,” said head coach David Deiros. “We need to learn from it and move on to next week’s games.” In the opening game, the Eagles fell 5-2. The FGCU softball team will begin a crucial series with the defending ASUN Champions on Friday with a double header starting at 4 P.M and 6 P.M. and game number three on Saturday at 1 P.M. The Eagles come in having lost their last game in conference, but still have a 27-7(2-1) record to begin the season. The FGCU softball team (27-6, 2-0 A-SUN) opened up A-SUN Conference play with as they won 2-0 and 9-5 over Stetson (20-12, 0-2 A-SUN). Deiros earns 600th career win

Following the FGCU softball team’s win in game two of a double-header on Saturday, the Eagles’ founding father coach earned his 600th win. Deiros began coaching in 2001 with the Eagles and has had 12 seasons with a winning record, including eight seasons of 35 or more wins. Following a week where the Eagles went 3-2 and earned their first two victories in ASUN play, both Riley Randolph and Raquel Fournet were given ASUN Pitcher of the Week and ASUN Conference Player of the Week. Coming in with a 25-6 record, the FGCU softball team will open conference play with a series versus Stetson at home. The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday starting at 4 P.M. and then play Sunday at 1 P.M. The FGCU softball team (24-5) finished up their portion of the Clearwater Tournament with a record of 4-1. The Eagles swept day one with 2-1 wins over Chattanooga (14-17) and St. Joseph’s (9-10) and split on day two with a 3-5 loss to Maine (9-14) and a 4-2 win over Lehigh (4-15) before concluding with a 6-2 win over Princeton (1-13).
