Historic comeback gives Eagles fist win of 2018

Trailing 3-0 in their first dual match of 2018, the FGCU women’s tennis team came back with a 4-3 win over FAU on Wednesday. This is the first time the Eagles erased this kind of deficit since the 2011-2012 season when the Eagles came back and beat conference-rival Stetson. For a second consecutive week, the ASUN Player of the Week was awarded to Felipe Ramirez following Felipe Escobar’s selection last week. This is the first time Ramirez has been selected to this award, but was a part of the ASUN All Conference Team last season. He currently plays No. 1 singles and doubles for the Eagles. In the first match of the season versus UNC Wilmington, the FGCU men’s tennis just narrowly missed out on their first win of the season falling 4-3 to the five-time Colonial champions on Sunday. With expectations at an all-time high, both the men and women’s tennis teams are both projected to finish at the top of the ASUN Conference. The FGCU women’s tennis team will host its annual three-day FGCU Spring Invite. Play is set to begin Saturday, January 13th and conclude on Monday, January 15th at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The teams participating in this invite will be South Carolina, Denver, Rice, Ole Miss and Kansas.
