The FGCU men’s tennis team (3-5) faced UT-Arlington successfully as the Eagles won 4-2. With the win, FGCU is now 2-0 against UT-Arlington and are 3-0 at home. “I’m extremely happy for the guys today even though we didn’t have our head coach CJ Weber here, the guys were on top of their matches,” said assistant coach Lucas Vaz, who was filling in for Weber today. It was a tough day for the FGCU Women’s Tennis team, as they fell 6-1 to Georgia State on Friday morning. The lone win from the Eagles came in singles from Patricia Villar, as she came away with a three-set win. “Georgia State competed hard against us today,” said head coach Courtney Vernon. “We just ran out of time but with that, we learned and will continue to learn from another opportunity. After an impressive 5-2 win over Middle Tennessee, the FGCU women’s tennis team will be back on the courts on Friday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. when the Eagles host Georgia State. The FGCU women’s tennis team (2-2) competed in their second home matchup and defeated Middle Tennessee State (7-4) 5-2. The FGCU women’s tennis team is set to face Middle Tennessee at the FGCU Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. The Eagles will be coming off a match on the road where they fell 1-6 to the #17 team in the country, Miami. Gallegos earned ASUN Player of the Week

For the first time in her career, freshman Madison Gallegos was awarded ASUN Player of the Week. Despite the team falling 6-1 against #17 Miami, Gallegos won the lone singles match as she defeated Daniella Roldan 7-6(10), 7-5 at #3 singles for the Eagles. This is her third dual match win of the season, as she won her last two matches against FAU and FIU and improved her overall record to 8-6 on the year. In a real tough battle with FAU, the Eagles battled multiple injuries and were forced to retire in one of their matches as FGCU fell 5-2 to the Owls. Due to inclement weather in Georgia, the FGCU women’s tennis team did not travel and instead played a match in-state against #17 Miami in Coral Gables. The Eagles fell 6-1 with the lone win coming in singles from Madison Gallegos in two tight sets. Following their matchup with FAU, the FGCU men’s tennis will face Florida A&M on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 12 p.m. These two teams faced off last season with FGCU winning 5-2.
