Ten celebrities who have gone green

Leonardo DiCaprio:
He is an active environmentalist who in 2007 co-wrote, narrated and co-produced “The 11th Hour,” a film about global warming. He also has his own foundation named after himself that consists of lobbyists who concentrate on the environment and humanitarian issues. They deal with problems such as clean water access and renewable energy. He also is a part of many environmental boards, such as Global Green USA and the World Wildlife Fund.

Stella McCartney:
This British designer is a vegetarian who is all about earth-friendly high fashion. Her studio and website are both wind-energy powered. She makes and sells organic clothes, shoes and bags and gives her online shoppers the option of getting them shipped carbon neutral.

Edward Norton:
While this 42-year-old movie star’s best known green role is “The Incredible Hulk,” he has been the goodwill ambassador for biodiversity at the United Nations since 2010 and has also been recognized for his work with the BP “Solar Neighbors” program. This program allows each celebrity to purchase solar-energy homes for low-income families.

Kerry Washington:
The “Scandal” star is very “eco-conscious,” according to oprah.com. She did an eco-makeover to her apartment in 2009. Her friend, interior designer Danny Seo, did the whole thing and made it eco-functional to fit her environmentally-conscious lifestyle.

Sting:
In 1989, Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, created The Rainforest Foundation. This foundation works in the tropical rainforests and preserves them along with the endangered animals in them. They have so far covered 15 regions, including places such as Brazil and Africa.

Natalie Portman:
After reading Johnathon Safran’s book “Eating Animals,” Natalie Portman decided to go vegan after being a vegetarian since childhood. She has gone to Rwanda to help with endangered gorillas and also filmed a documentary about the issue. Fun fact: In 2010 her now-husband Benjamin Millepied gave her an eco-friendly engagement ring.

Orlando Bloom:
Orlando Bloom is very environmentally friendly, as he accompanied Global Green USA to Antarctica to study the effects of global warming on polar bears. He also helped to launch Global Cool, which is an organization that helps to inform people of ways in which they can stop global warming. News of Orlando Bloom’s green habits first made news when his then-girlfriend, Miranda Kerr, made it public that she had a problem with his environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Alicia Silverstone:
This vegan “Clueless” star wrote a diet book called “The Kind Diet” that talks about “living your healthiest and happiest life to the fullest, while taking care of mama Earth at the same time.” “The Kind Life” is the name of her blog where she gives vegan-friendly recipes and earth-friendly finds. In 2012 she made national news when she posted a video of herself feeding her son bird-style.

Pierce Brosnan
In 1997, he received an award for environmental leadership from Mikhail Gorbachev and in 2008 Pierce and his wife Keely Shaye Smith were both inducted in the Environmental Hall of Fame. Brosnan is a UNICEF ambassador who always stays environmentally friendly and also has “publicized himself as a major supporter of environmental charities,” according to huffingtonpost.com.

Oprah Winfrey
The queen of daytime TV is also the queen of being green. Oprah is one of the biggest celebrity advocates for taking care of the environment. With her charitable efforts and love of organic and recyclable goods, Oprah has always promoted being everyday green with the use of light bulbs and even cleaning products.
