Police beat (01/10/2016-01/15/2016)

01/10/2016, 2:40 p.m.
A student requested an officer in Everglades Hall in South Village to report a missing cat. The cat was the student’s support animal and it was gray and white female. The UPD officer searched the student’s room and the cat was found in the dresser drawer.
01/11/2016, 10:47 a.m.
A complainant called UPD to report that her Mercedes Benz had died while waiting for a parking spot on the first floor of Garage 4, and was blocking the roadway. A UPD officer told the woman that the car had a mechanical problem. The officer then proceeded to call Red’s Towing but was delayed until 11:34 p.m. because of another emergency call from Merwin Hall.
01/11/2016, 11:21 a.m.
A caller from Merwin Hall called UPD to report a female and a male having an altercation in the second floor of the building. A second caller told UPD the female was trying to cut herself with an unknown object. Two UPD officers arrived and found the female with cuts on her left arm and thigh. Lee Control was called and they transported her to a medical center for evaluation.

A parent called to request a welfare check on her son. The mother had last heard from her son on Jan. 4 when he left home to come back to FGCU. A UPD officer visited the student’s room in Eagle Hall in South Village and told him to call his mom.
01/12/13/2016, 6:33 p.m.
After a traffic crash in Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, EMS was called because a 24-year-old female was complaining of chest pain. One of the drivers was issued a citation for driving without his glasses. All individuals then refused transportation.
01/14/2016, 3:14 a.m.
A UPD officer spotted a red Kia parked behind Target off campus. The driver told the officer he had pulled over to take a nap, so the officer told him to go home.
01/4/2016, 10:05 p.m.
A smoke detector in Falcon Building in North Lake was going off 40 minutes after a student had stopped cooking. The smoke was not dissipating, so Lee Control told the resident assistant to pull the fire alarm and evacuate the building. Lee Control then went in and found overcooked food in the kitchen. They cleared the building and everyone was allowed back in.
01/14/2016, 10:35 p.m.
A UPD officer found several individuals on the top floor of Garage B in South Village with open containers of alcohol, and 3.5 grams of marijuana in their vehicle. The four cans of 24 oz. Twisted Tea were dumped out and the individuals were issued a warning for the alcohol. All items were placed into evidence.
01/15/2016, 2:56 a.m.
A UPD officer stopped a car after watching it swerve in the FGCU North Boulevard. The driver told the officer he or she was eating while driving.
01/15/2016, 6:31 p.m.
A resident assistant requested a UPD officer in Palmetto Hall in South Village to standby a housing administrative search. The officer found 16 grams of marijuana, mushrooms, three marijuana cigarettes and a small bag with a crystalized substance. The officer then took the contraband to his car to test the crystalized substance but did not have a meth test kit. He waited for two other offices to arrive with a test kit and then proceeded with the testing. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The officer then took all items into an evidence locker and forwarded the case to student affairs.
