Police Beat: Drug searches, graffiti and ‘monkey man’

Monday, April 8 at 9:14 p.m.
An RD requested an officer to standby for a drug search in Marlin Hall in West Lake Village. In room D, two glass pipes with residue were found. In room C, 2 grams of marijuana and alcohol were found. The resident poured out the alcohol and the items were turned over. This case is now under judicial review.
Monday, April 8 at 5:58 p.m.
An RD requested an officer to standby for a drug search in Biscayne Hall. In room A, one glass pipe was found in the bathroom; one vaporizer and a mouthpiece were found. In room B, there was one scale, two packs of rolling papers, one grinder, one keif press and one pill bottle containing keif, which tested positive for marijuana. This incident was turned over for judicial review.
Thursday, April 4 at 10:48 p.m.
An RD requested an officer to stand by for a room search in Biscayne Hall. During the search, a lock box was found with approximately 75 grams of marijuana, numerous paraphernalia items and $70. The resident was arrested and taken to Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Wednesday, April 3 at 8:40 a.m.
A complainant called to report a suspicious person dressed in a monkey suit in the woods. This person was observed by faculty and students getting ready to use the nature trail. When an officer arrived, the monkey man was gone.
Tuesday, April 2 at 8:19 p.m.
A complainant called UPD to report a suspicious vehicle in South Village. The complainant stated that it was a military-type vehicle, possibly a jeep. The driver and others were yelling at people with a bullhorn.
Tuesday, April 2 at 5:17 p.m.
There was a request for an officer at the Bower School of Music because there was a dispute with an uncooperative bus driver. He was refusing to move his bus after he was asked several times. After speaking with the officer, he moved his bus; it had been on the sidewalk.
Tuesday, April 2 at 9:11 a.m.
A complainant called UPD and stated that her vehicle had been vandalized while parked in Everglades Hall parking. When an officer arrived to meet with the complainant, there was no damage found on the vehicle except fingerprints. The complainant advised that someone had been inside her car and left the glove box open. Nothing was reported missing and the complainant refused to make a statement. The officer advised the complainant to park in garage B where there were cameras and to also keep the vehicle locked.
Monday, April 1 at 9:40 p.m.
In the Biscayne auxiliary parking lot, a student’s car was broken into. The items that were reported missing included clothing, shoes, bags and $20. This incident was reported.
Monday, April 1 at 4:22 p.m
There was a report of graffiti in the men’s first floor restroom in Sugden Hall. Work management reported that there were sayings like “wipe my butt” and also things insulting the workers. This was all done in black ink. It was covered up and will be looked into.
