Domenic Volpi and Cory Mentzer are officially in office as Florida Gulf Coast University’s student body president and vice president. Their first day as the University’s student leaders started at midnight Tuesday.

The duo has spent this last month preparing for their new positions by visiting various offices around campus familiarizing themselves with protocol and procedures.
“I fully intend to devote myself to the University’s continued growth and success,” Mentzer said. “I couldn’t be any more excited to take office and start implementing the changes students want to see. This upcoming year will be a memorable one.”
Volpi feels that the attitudes of student government officials are at an extreme high, but they haven’t forgotten who they’re ultimately working for.
“We want students to know that with all the craziness we still haven’t forgotten who put us in these offices,” Volpi said. “I want them to remember that my door is always open and we will always listen to them.”
Some of the initiatives proposed include healthier dining options on campus, a late-night shuttle to and from the Gulf Coast Town Center, traffic control and a t-shirt exchange.
