Obama administration reveals $21 million for summer and year-round jobs

For many students, summer jobs are vital for paying for everything from tuition to car loans. On Monday, May 16, the Obama administration announced that it will be making strides to release $21 million toward “Summer Jobs and Beyond” grants in 11 areas across the U.S. that will assist disadvantaged young people in finding work during the summer.
“Access to a job in the summer and beyond can make all the difference to a young person,” President Barack Obama said in a press release, “especially those who don’t have access to many resources and opportunities.”
The 11 grant winners are The New Americas Career Pathways project in Utica, New York; The Pathways to Sector Employment for Youth project in Portland, Oregon; The Summer Youth Career Pathways Project in the tribal counties of California; The Milwaukee Career Plus project in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; The Promise Zone YES! in Hartford, Connecticut; Beyond Summer Jobs in Chicago, Illinois; Santa Maria Summer Jobs & Beyond in Santa Maria, California; Grow Detroit’s Young Talent in Detroit, Michigan; Franklin Hampshire Summer Jobs and Beyond in Franklin Hampshire Region, Massachusetts; Youth Works Indy in Indianapolis, Indiana and CareerLink Philadelphia: Youth & Young Adult Opportunity Hob in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The White House will also be launching 16 Summer Impact Hubs, locations that will provide young people with resources that will assist them in finding jobs, meals, entrepreneurship opportunities, violence reduction programs along with access to 16 federal agencies.
The Summer Impact Hubs will be located in Baltimore, Maryland; Clarksdale, Mississippi; Detroit, Michigan; Flint, Michigan; Gary, Indiana; Houston, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Jonesboro, Arkansas; Los Angeles, California; Memphis, Tennessee; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Pine Bluff, Arkansas; Pine Ridge, South Dakota; St. Louis, Missouri and Washington, D.C.
