Police Beat: Ducks, drugs, and strange symbols

Suspicious Person

On Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:03 p.m., an individual wearing a grey T-shirt and black shorts prevented cars from leaving Garage 2. UPD officers responded and spoke with event coordinators to resolve the issue.

Strange Symbols

On Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5:08 p.m., UPD received an email from a complainant stating there was a strange symbol written on a post outside the building located near the old smoker’s station. A UPD officer investigated to find the sticker with the strange symbol had been placed on a beam beneath the roof of the building. The UPD officer contacted the physical plant supervisor, who immediately set to work removing the symbol. No description of the symbol was provided.

Crash in Garage 4

On Monday, Nov. 21 at 11:27 a.m., a complainant contacted UPD to state that her vehicle had been hit in Garage 4. UPD reviewed camera footage in an attempt to identify who had hit the subject’s car but was not able to find direct evidence.

Screams in FGCU Lake

On Monday, Nov. 21 at 1:36 p.m., a complainant contacted UPD to report that she heard someone scream near her FGCU Lake dormitory. When she tried to contact the resident from which she believed the scream to come from, the resident acted suspiciously. UPD investigated the incident, and the suspected residents reported that all was well; they were just “playing around.”

Flair in the Woods

On Monday, Nov. 21 at 2:35 a.m., a complainant called UPD to report seeing what appeared to be a flair coming from the woods on the south side of FGCU Lake Parkway West. A UPD officer arrived to investigate but found no evidence on the scene.

Drugs in Garage B

On Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 1:23 a.m., a UPD officer arrived at Garage B to find a large group of students on the top floor. The students were heading toward the elevator, but the UPD officer identified two students remaining at the ledge of the garage. The officer smelled marijuana coming from the two students, a male and a female. The female student admitted she had been smoking marijuana and turned over a multicolored pipe. This item was seized, and the subject was referred to the dean of students.

Vehicle Search

On Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 1:50 a.m., a UPD officer pulled over a driver on FGCU Lake Parkway West. The UPD officer conducted a vehicle search, finding a leafy substance in a plastic bag, a grinder and a blunt. These items were seized, and the driver was referred to student conduct. The driver admitted to smoking off campus and was issued a citation for driving 53 mph in a 35 mph zone as well as a verbal warning for failing to stop at a red light.

Skateboard with Ducks Found

On Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 4:31 p.m., a skateboard was found on the sixth floor of Garage B. The skateboard has been described as a Penny and was reported to have ducks, fish and fishermen on the bottom. The item has not yet been claimed.
