Students host fundraiser for children’s hospital

A fundraiser for the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, in Cohen Center room 214.
The event, Crafting for a Cause, will be hosted by Montana Knight and Paige Belcher, two FGCU students who started the Golisano Gala. Students and faculty can paint a tile at the event for a suggested donation of $5, and bring their artwork home.
Knight and Belcher purchased all tiles and art supplies for the fundraiser with money out of their own pockets.

“To me, whenever I think of donations or anything — money — it’s all a loan from somebody else,” Knight said.
All donations from the event will go to the hospital’s art program, which supplies coloring books, colored pencils and crayons to patients.
Volunteers for the Golisano Gala make trips to the hospital every other Monday to do arts and crafts with the patients. The volunteers bring supplies for art projects such as coloring pictures or painting an already-built birdhouse. Knight and Belcher have been posting photos of the kids’ final products on on their official website all semester.
“When we do these projects with them, or even when it’s just the art program at the hospital, it really distracts them from the monotony and gives them something fun to do,” Knight said.
