Eagles win season finale; enter conference tournament as No.1 seed

The Florida Gulf Coast University women’s soccer team shut out Stetson University
on Saturday, scoring four goals with freshman Tabby Tindell landing a hat trick in the
match. This 4-0 win over Stetson secured the Lady Eagles the top seed in the Atlantic Sun
Conference. FGCU will be hosting the A-Sun tournament at the FGCU Soccer Complex for
the third consecutive year.
The Green and Blue came onto the pitch with one thing in mind—a win for the top seed.
Tindell, the A-Sun player of the week, scored her fi rst goal, unassisted, during the 13th
minute of play. The Eagles continued to pressure the opponent by putting up shot after shot.
During the 24th minute, Tindell scored her second goal off a corner kick with assists from
Melissa Arnold and Tessa Berger. The Eagles went into half time with 2-0 lead over Stetson.
The second half brought more action for Stetson when Shannen Wacker scored her
unassisted goal. The Green and Blue went on shooting against the opponent, forcing Stetson
goaltender Amber Law to make 10 saves total. Tindell got her third goal during the 82nd
minute of play with an assist from Ally Kasun. This fi nal goal would bring the match to a
close with the Eagles winning 4-0 over Stetson and giving FGCU goaltender Brittany Brown
another shutout for the season and A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Tindell’s play in this match would give her a record-breaking and record-beginning day.
She broke Lindsay Haw’s record of single-season goals scored by a player when she tallied
her fi rst goal of the afternoon. She also broke Haw’s record of single-season points scored by
a player on her second goal, giving her 29 points overall for the regular season. Tindell is the
fi rst player in program history to record multiple hat tricks in a career and took home A-Sun
Player of the Week honors.
The Eagles soar into the A-Sun Conference Tournament as conference champions and
will be back on the pitch on Nov. 8 for the Atlantic Sun semi-fi nals at the FGCU Soccer
Complex.
