Winter Storm Jonas throws snowball into FGCU hoops schedule

Three FGCU basketball games were rescheduled due to the effects of Winter Storm Jonas, which has already begun burying cities in several feet of snow along the east coast.
The undefeated in conference FGCU men’s basketball team was forced to reschedule its fifth conference game of the season due to weather. FGCU’s game with Lipscomb, which was originally set for 4 p.m. on Saturday as part of a double-header with the women’s teams, was rescheduled for Sunday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. The game will still be aired live on ESPN3.
The storm also rescheduled the FGCU women’s game against Lipscomb, which was also originally set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, to 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24.
Officials deemed travel too dangerous following the eight inches of snow — the most downtown Nashville has seen in 13 years — from the Winter Storm Jonas.

Winter Storm Jonas has already begun reaching snow totals that have topped 30 inches in at least four states with near-blizzard conditions, record coastal flooding, and winds over 70 mph in some coastal areas, according to The Weather Channel.
The national weather news organization stated that “the combination of strong winds and heavy snow will continue to create life-threatening whiteout conditions for anyone attempting to travel on Saturday.”
Due to scheduling changes with Lipscomb, the FGCU women’s team was also forced to push back its tilt with Kennesaw State, which was originally scheduled for Monday, to Tuesday at 2 p.m.
Despite changes, both the FGCU women’s games will still be aired live on ESPN3.
Effects of Winter Storm Jonas could be felt throughout the rest of the Atlantic Sun. The FGCU women’s basketball game between USC Upstate and North Florida will be rescheduled to tip at 7 p.m. on Tuesday after originally being planned to face off on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The men’s basketball game between North Florida, which along with FGCU remain undefeated in the A-Sun, and conference newcomer NJIT was forced to be rescheduled. Originally scheduled for Saturday in Newark, New Jersey, the game, which will still be aired live on ESPN3, was rescheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
