FGCU striker Albert Ruiz is in the running to being crowned the best player in college soccer.
Ruiz was named a finalist for the 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
The trophy is college soccer’s equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, an accolade that spotlights the best college football player. Ruiz is one of three finalists, competing against Wake Forest University midfielder Ian Harkes and University of Maryland forward Gordon Wild.
The MAC Hermann Trophy has been awarded every year since 1967 and the winners are determined based on voting made by D-1 coaches. Ruiz is the first player in ASUN history to be named a finalist for the award.
The winner will be announced at the 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 6.
