Spring break is two weeks away, so I think it’s safe to say it’s time to start preparing. Gathering your friends and planning your spring break destination is just the fi rst step. Next, you need to get your wardrobe together, but if you indulged a little too much over the holidays, it may be harder than expected. Here’s how to look hot in the sand without breaking the bank.
It all starts with what you eat. To get a fl at stomach, shift your carbohydrates. Slow down on the breads, pastas and rice, but increase the berries and cherries. Berries are high in fi ber, which means they’ll minimize the amount of calories you absorb. They’re also known to be rich in antioxidants, which improve blood fl ow and help muscles contract more effi ciently during workouts. Another tummy-friendly food is the grapefruit. This fruit’s acidity helps slow digestion, making you feel fuller longer. However, a diet of all fruits is still not a healthy one. Adding protein to your diet can boost metabolism and help you shed some extra pounds.
If weight is less of an issue than toning Blogilates may be the solution for you. Blogilates is a YouTube channel run by Casey Ho, a Pilates instructor. Pilates focuses on core strengthening and fl exibility and requires nothing more than a mat and open space. Squats are a nice way to tone up your butt and thighs. If you’re a beginner simply lean against a wall with your legs shoulder width apart, then pretend to sit in a chair. A hundred squats a day will result in muscle toning just in time to hit the beach. For a less time consuming workout, you may want to try walking more. With the extra calories burned, walking to and from class can help get you in shape.
There are also a variety of workout classes offered by the Recreational Center throughout the week. The classes last for about an hour and are sure to get you in tip-top shape for whatever you have planned this break. Just remember that a balance between your foods and exercise is necessary, so make sure to stay healthy, stay active and be comfortable in your own skin.
