The regular season concluded Saturday night as the FGCU women’s basketball team took down Jacksonville University 78-47. The victory over the Dolphins brings the Eagles’ current winning streak to 22 straight wins. improving their conference record to an untouched 14-0. No. 22 ranked FGCU finishes up the regular season with only two defeats, going into the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship with a promising record of 27-2.
A close battle only during the game’s opening minutes, FGCU took an 18-point going into halftime. FGCU junior guard Kaneisha Atwater exploded offensively for 29 points on 11-14 shooting. Atwater set the tempo for the Eagles, leading them  to an efficient 49.1 percent from the field as a team. Forward Katie Meador and guard DyTiesha Dunson both helped out on the offensive side, scoring 13 points each.
“I didn’t think we played great defense to start the second half but later in the half Kaneisha got us easy baskets at the rim. Kaneisha played a great game on both ends. Atwater, Dunson and Meador all had excellent, excellent games on both ends and I’m really happy with that,” said head coach Karl Smesko in a previous statement.

The Eagles have clinched the No. 1 seed, landing themselves home-court advantage throughout the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. FGCU opens up the tournament against no. 8 seed North Florida 7 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 6. The Eagles have already defeated the Ospreys twice this season by a combined margin of 65 points.
