You know you’ve made it when you have a geofilter on Snapchat.
That’s the case for FGCU’s campus, which has finally been graced by the acknowledgement from popular social media application, Snapchat. Other state universities – University of South Florida, Florida State and University of Florida – have already had geofilters for months.
Snapchat — a time-restricted, media-sharing application — describes its geofilters as special overlays for snaps that can only be accessed in certain locations. The social media app encourages artists and designers to submit their own art to be used in the Snapchat community.
The new, location-specific feature of blue and green gradient words, reading “FGCU Eagles,” comes almost a month after a Fort Myers geofilter was released.
The filter currently works on main campus, in most on-campus dorm areas and the sports complex. The app currently does not work at West Lake Village located next to the Gulf Coast Town Center.
FGCU Athletics and the FGCU Community Relations and Marketing department confirmed that neither department was involved in the geofilter.
Eagle News is currently looking into the person or department responsible for creating and submitting the geofilter. Check back with Eagle News for updates on this story. If you have any information, please contact the author at [email protected]
