Good for our University hockey teams for going pink

By Shannon Kamnik

I am writing in response to the Oct. 2 article “Real Men Wear Pink.” I’m thrilled to know that the men’s D2 and D3 leagues will be “going pink” for October in support of breast cancer awareness. As a student at Florida Gulf Coast University, I love how our campus supports so many worthy causes and how our students are so involved in benevolent purposes.
It’s really nice to see the teams at FGCU working for a cause they care about, especially when it hits close to home for some of the players. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, so supporting this cause is imperative for everyone. One of those eight women could be any of our mothers, daughters, sisters or friends.
Besides being a team working with a great cause, the FGCU men’s hockey team seems to be a close-knit group who is entertaining to watch. I look forward to seeing what this season holds for our men’s team and plan to attend all their games. I’ve never enjoyed watching hockey until I started going to the FGCU games, but I love to root for our guys and pretend it’s winter for a few hours every so often.
