Volleyball sweeps Hartford in three-set shutout

FGCU started off the weekend strong in New York, sweeping Hartford Friday afternoon through three sets.
Hartford came into the game after six days of solely practicing with a record of 0-7. Hartford had no response to FGCU’s offense, led by senior Eleonora Kazarian. Putting over 40 kills on the board, the Eagles hitting percentage was at .402, the second time this year the team has hit above .400.
“I was very happy with our focus today,” said head coach Matt Botsford to FGCU athletics.  “To hit over .400 for a match is always impressive and a good indication Maggie [Rick] was putting her hitters in good positions.”
Freshman Maggie Rick ended the game with 31 assists while senior Vanessa Benke stacked up 7 of the team’s 27 digs.  Continuing the New York state of mind, FGCU, now with a record of 5-2, will take on Princeton tomorrow morning in Long Island.
The women will hit the court at 10 a.m. against the Ivy League school, which holds a current record of 1-2. Princeton has a combined total of 25 team kills this season, while FGCU has 41 afterFriday’s game.
