On Saturday, Sept. 26, the FGCU women’s soccer team opened up Atlantic Sun Conference play at home against the UNF Ospreys with a 2-0 victory. The Eagles came into the game beginning their quest for their sixth straight A-Sun Conference championship, as the Ospreys looked to shock the reigning A-Sun champions at home.
The Eagles got off to a fast start when in the seventh minute, Tabby Tindell got the ball in the box and dished it off to Ali Rodgers, who put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. 20 minutes later the Eagles were on the attack again, when Camille Knudstrup orchestrated a beautiful run through midfield, then played the ball in the box to Tabby Tindell, where she blew past a defender and blasted a shot past the Ospreys’ goalkeeper, putting the Eagles up 2-0. The Eagles played a great game defensively holding the Ospreys to no goals and only two shots, with one shot being on target.
With its dominating performance, the Eagles start A-Sun play with a 1-0 record. The Eagles will look to continue their winning ways against their second consecutive A-Sun opponent, the Jacksonville Dolphins, on Friday, in Jacksonville, Florida.
