The No. 15 FGCU Eagles traveled north to face the UNF Ospreys Saturday, Oct. 10. After defeating the Stetson Hatters on the road, the Eagles were looking to remain unbeaten in A-Sun conference play, and they did, tying their match against the Ospreys, 1-1.
Twenty-five minutes into the game, the Ospreys took a 1-0 lead after Simen Solstad scored off of a set piece. Just two minutes later, the Eagles came powering into the box when Miguel Jaime was taken down, earning the Eagles a penalty kick. Albert Ruiz stepped up to the spot for the Eagles and blasted the ball past the goalkeeper, scoring his second goal of the season from the spot and tying the game 1-1.
Twenty-six minutes into the second half, Solstad picked up his second yellow card of the game, leaving the Ospreys down to 10 men for the remainder of regulation, as well as the two overtime periods. With the Eagles now having a one-man advantage, they looked to escape with a win, and it appeared they were close to when Preston Kilwien’s shot hit the post in the 78th minute.
With the score remaining at 1-1, the game required two periods of overtime, but neither team walked away with the win. With this result, the Eagles now sit atop of the A-Sun conference table with 7 points and have extended their unbeaten streak to four games. FGCU will look to earn a win in its second consecutive match on the road against the FAU Owls Tuesday, Oct. 13, before returning to A-Sun conference play when it faces Lipscomb at home Saturday, Oct. 17.
