The Coconut Point New Year’s Weekend Art Festival is in its fifth year of showcasing the work of talented artists to Southwest Florida’s residents and tourists. This popular event has regularly ranked in the top 100 fine art shows in the country by Sunshine Artist magazine.
The Coconut Point festival takes place this weekend, Jan. 2 and 3, at the mall’s parking lot in Estero.
The festival will feature original artwork from local and out-of-state artists, along with live music.
Howard Alan, of Howard Alan Creations, is the promoter of the event. Alan said the festival accepted 400 artists’ applications.
“We have over 200 artists … which means only one of every two applicants is accepted in the show … all with their original artwork,” Alan said. “The artists work in galleries, motor homes in their backyard, working around the clock to create enough work for this show.”
Some of pieces to be presented at the festival include paintings, sculptures, photography, ceramics, glass, wood, jewelry, collage and mixed media that are available for purchase. The prices for these items can vary quite a bit.
“You can buy anything from a $25 pair of earrings to a $50,000 bronze sculpture,” Alan said.
All of the artwork to be displayed was selected by judges through an application process to ensure quality in design and diversity in presentation. The artists themselves will be available each day of the festival to speak with art patrons and enthusiasts to answer questions.
Volunteers from Keep Lee County Beautiful, a local nonprofit dedicated to environmental advocacy in Lee County, will also be present at the event. They intend to hand out information and answer questions about KLCB’s recycling program; additionally, they will provide attendees with tips on how to become more environmentally conscious.
Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.
The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Coconut point is a great venue,” Alan said. It’s a fabulous show. There is something for everybody, from a college student to a CEO, and you don’t have to buy anything to have a good time.”
