Landert siblings shine in FGCU tennis program

For these two Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, “love” means a lot more than zero points on the tennis scoreboard.
Alexandra and Oliver Landert are two tennis-playing siblings from Switzerland. Alexandra Landert transferred to Florida Gulf Coast University in 2014 after her sophomore year at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. At Seton Hall University Alexandra had 12 singles victories by the end of end her freshman season.
Continuing to succeed throughout her college career, Alexandra Landert finished her first season at Florida Gulf Coast University with a 7-9 record.
She came to Florida Gulf Coast because of Coach Courtney Vernon.
“I like her as a person and a coach,” Alexandra Landert said.
Her brother, Oliver Landert, who was a redshirt freshman at the University of Florida, transferred to Florida Gulf Coast University the fall season of 2015. Before being enrolled at the University of Florida in January 2014, Oliver Landert was ranked No. 7 in the state of Florida.
According to a recruiting website, Oliver Landert is a five-star prospect.
“The players are amazing and I get along with them really well,” Oliver Landert said of his teammates at FGCU.
Oliver Landert’s coach, C.J Weber, had great things to say about  his transfer and what the team gained from him.
“His coachability and commitment level to the team is off the charts,” Weber said.
Weber is very confident in Oliver Landert’s ability to become a better player everyday.
“Success is the daily commitment to improving,” Weber said.
When asked how it felt to be playing the same sport together at FGCU, the Landert siblings said they are thrilled.
“It’s a better atmosphere with her here; I feel more comfortable,” Oliver Landert said.
Alexandra Landert was happy to have the support and motivation she gains from her brother here at school with her.
“Now that we are both here, we are super motivated, and we motivate each other,” Alexandra Landert said.
After being separated for a few years while Alexandra Landert was at Seton Hall and Oliver Landert was at Florida, both of the Landert siblings are very happy to be reunited and to be here to support each other. Alexandra Landert reminisced about her and her brother training together.
“We used to practice together before we both went to college, so we were always there for each other,” Alexandra Landert said.
Oliver Landert shared that tennis is and has always been a family sport, many members of their family played tennis and as he said “It’s just in the family.”
Growing up, Alexandra and Oliver Landert would watch their parents play tennis and knew that it was the sport for them. Both Landert siblings share a love for the game and the court they play on.
