Ariana Grande’s new single, ‘Focus,’ and music video get fans talking

Lately, pop artists and singers have been huge fans of the big band sound in songs such as “Uptown Funk” and “Downtown.”
At midnight Oct. 29, Ariana Grande released her new single, “Focus,” including the music video that featured a heavy low-brass sound, and it has her fans going wild.
One hour before the release, Grande shared a photo on Twitter, which showed the number of tweets in one day of people preparing for the song and sharing their excitement. The number was close to a million. Throughout the last week, Grande had posted spoiler-induced pictures every day with hastags “#5DaysTilFocus,” “#4DaysTilFocus,” etc.
Yet another current trend, Grande sported gray hair in the music video. It also included an unknown man yelling, “focus on me,” during the chorus. Fans have since complained about the “annoying and irrelevant” man, but Grande took it to Twitter to offer a small game with such fans to guess who he is.
Though we still do not have an answer, and Grande is clearly having a ton of fun watching her fans and Ryan Seacrest go crazy, trying to figure out who she called a mystery. However, it has now come down to four possible artists: Mystikal, whose voice sounds quite similar in “Shake It Fast,” or Grande’s official DJ, DJ Dubz, who joined her on her recently finished Honeymoon tour, with a voice very familiar to the vocals on the track. Plus, he posted a photo of the single art with the hashtag “#ThisIsOneOfManyToCome.” Pitbull is another guess. He was rumored to be working with Grande at about the time the track was finished and ready for production back in May. And last, but not least, ASAP Rocky, who has recently been lending his talents to pop stars such as Selena Gomez.

The beginning of the song demonstrates a 1990s Britney Spears sound, and the music video certainly does not sway from that theme with risqué outfits that fans who have been following Grande since her big break on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious,” are beginning to become accustomed to. It is blatant that this pop star is on track to break out of her children’s television façade and grow into her own unique personality in the world of entertainment.
Certain lyrics show the sudden outbreak from teenager to now 22-year- old such as, “I can tell you’re curious, it’s written on your lips. Ain’t no need to hold it back, go ‘head and talk your ….” And, “Let’s find a light inside our universe now where ain’t nobody keep on holding us down.”
During the chorus, a heavily focused and choreographed dance broke out with the aforementioned big band sound in the back and with Grande and a handful of dancers in two-piece outfits with sky-high shoes.
If the majority of the music video did not surprise people into what Grande’s new look might turn into, the fact that she broke out a trumpet toward the end of it might do the trick.
