Big Black to bring lecture to FGCU

Big Black will be making an appearance Monday, Feb. 22 for a lecture on diversity, skateboarding and fun, hosted by the FGCU Programming Board.

Christopher “Big Black” Boykin is best known for his role on the reality TV series “Rob and Big” on MTV, featuring the antics of professional skateboarder, producer and actor Rob Dyrdek.

As Dyrdek’s bodyguard, Big Black takes part in adventures like buying a mini horse suitably named “Mini Horse,” making home improvements, discovering the mystery of the “poop in the pool” and celebrating a “Super Sweet Fourteen” for their puppy, Meaty.

The series premiered Nov. 4, 2006 and concluded April 15, 2008 after three seasons, once Big Black revealed he would become a father.

Big Black will begin his lecture at 7 p.m. in the Cohen Center ballroom.

Director of lectures Molly O’Donnell said that she decided to bring in a speaker who would appeal to as much of the student body as possible.

“Big Black is pretty commonly known among people our age and diversity is a timely topic,” O’Donnell said.

The title of Big Black’s lecture is “Diversity, Skateboarding and Fun,” giving students an expectation of the present diversity in Big Black’s life and how it has impacted him. O’Donnell is excited for the responses that students will have.

“Students will have the opportunity to learn the importance of diversity and how it can impact our lives,” O’Donnell said. “I’m extremely excited that the Programming Board has the opportunity to bring Big Black. I’m looking forward to a great event.”
