A familiar art gallery will be gracing FGCU’s campus later this week, celebrating the arts at the university.
This year’s Juried Student Art Exhibition will be featured in the Arts Complex from March 17 to 31. Doors will open 5 p.m., with the main gallery opening reception and award show at 6 p.m.

For the past 18 years, the juried art exhibit has been giving art students a chance to receive valuable feedback. It’s a highly competitive process. This year alone saw roughly 240 submissions, 68 of which will be displayed.
Forty students will be represented in this year’s gallery. At the reception, visitors will have the chance to meet the artists who come from a variety of majors and interests from all over campus. Video, photography, sculpture, drawing, painting will be some of the pieces guests can expect.
“It showcases a wide range of student work from different levels of experience,” said John Loscuito, the gallery director. “It is also a time for the students to experience what it means to go through the juroring process.”
Each year, the gallery brings in three outside jurors. This gallery is all about exposure; jurors aren’t familiar with the students, and many pieces will be for sale. Additionally, money from the pieces that are sold will go directly to the artist.
“We strive to create a professional exhibition that treats the works of our students in the same manner as we do professional artists,” Loscuito said. “Each artwork contains unique ideas and skills, and with 68 works of art, a visitor will certainly find many that are compelling.”
The gallery will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, except on Thursday when it will be open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The exhibition will be open through March 31.
