Have a happy holiday with sweet treats
Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like food, lights, cold weather and, of course, sweets.
On a college budget, dreaming of those fancy desserts may not be far from reality.
Many different recipe books have easy-to-create recipes, on a budget, that will have your party keeping with the festive spirit and your guests wondering how you made them.
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or nothing at all, there are sweet treats that still keep up the general splendor of the holidays with a bright and festive vibe, all while keeping your wallet still relatively full.
Mini elf and Santa treats are easy to make and will most likely get your friends asking about the cute little faces on the very elf-like marshmallows. Stick them on the counter, and if they’re not eaten, they’re still a conversation starter (and there’s more for you).
To make these fun, little treats, you will need Kraft Jet-puffed Mallow Bites Ice Cream Cone Marshmallows; green, red velvet and white candy melts; jumbo red and green sprinkles; brown, black and pink edible markers; wax paper and tweezers.
First, melt the white candy according to the package directions, which should be on the side of the bag. Holding the tip of the marshmallow, dip into the white melted candy and cover the wider portion of the marshmallow. Set it to dry and do this with each of the other marshmallows.
Once that’s done, you’re going to melt the red and green candy and dip the other end of the marshmallow into the green and red candy. Of course, make sure you set everything to dry before you continue.
Once that’s done, use the edible markers and make hair, pink cheeks, eyes and a mouth on the newly made elves.
Using tweezers, pick up a jumbo sprinkle and barely dip the top into whatever color your candy hat is before adding it to the top. Once done, set to dry, and in a few minutes, you should have sweet little elves to eat.
For those that may not be into marshmallows, there’s also the option of pretzel hugs.
To make these delicious little bites, you will need 70 square pretzels, and make sure not to use butter snaps. You will also need 70 unwrapped Hershey’s Hugs chocolates and 70 milk chocolate M&Ms.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Line the pretzels on the parchment in a single layer then top each pretzel with one of the Hershey’s Hugs. Bake in the oven for four to five minutes, until the chocolate is shiny and soft, but make sure it’s not melting.
Once they are finished, remove them from the oven and carefully place one M&M in the center of each soft Hug and press down on the M&M to spread the chocolate.
Place them in the fridge and allow the chocolate to rest until its set, which should only take five minutes.
