Nominations for the 74^th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday, Dec. 12.
“La La Land” is nominee favorite for this year’s Golden Globe Awards. The movie pulled in seven nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor and Actress nods for its stars, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The romantic musical is about a pair of aspiring performers who end up falling in love in Los Angeles.
“Moonlight,” a coming-of-age film about a young, gay, black man followed with six nominations. “Moonlight” has nominations in Best Director and two Best Supporting Acting categories.
Casey Affleck’s drama, “Manchester by the Sea” followed with five nominations. Affleck also scored a nomination in Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama and he is up against Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington.
On the TV side, there is no surprise that “Veep” and “Transparent” received their usual nods in Best TV Series, Comedy, Jeffrey Tambor for Best Actor, Comedy and Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Best Actress, Comedy.
HBO fared the best among networks with 14 nods between hit series “Westworld” and “The Night Of.” FX followed with nine nominations.
Although Meryl Streep is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy, she will be receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award for her lifetime achievement in the film industry.  Streep has a record of 29 Golden Globe nominations and eight wins.
Members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which is made up of journalists from around the world who cover the entertainment industry, vote on Golden Globe Awards winners.
The award show will air live coast-to-coast on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 5-8-11 p.m. from the Beverly Hilton Hotel with comedian Jimmy Fallon as host. “The Tonight Show” host previously emceed the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards.
