What students think about the impact of Oscar De La Renta

One of the most known names on any red carpet was fashion designer Oscar De La Renta, who died Oct. 20 at age 82, yet still surprises fashion junkies every time they see one of his pieces.
I wanted to see how many Florida Gulf Coast University students actually know about him and his work. All interviewees were shown three photos of his work and asked whether or not they know who he was.

Q2: What do you think of his work?
– Unique. Different. Stands out.
Q3: Do you think he received the right amount of press coverage after his death?
– No
Q4: How do you think his death will affect the fashion world?
– “[It’s] devastating seeing that that’s what his whole life was dedicated to. But as far as the fashion world, it will [affect it] because those were some pretty big celebrities you showed me [wearing his designs].”

Q2: “I think he creates beautiful dresses for celebrities to wear both on the runway and the red carpet.”

Q4: “Just like another legend gone too soon, just like Alexander Maquin. Just losing another great fashion designer.”

Q2: His work is elaborate. He has many dresses that have been worn on runways and at major red carpet events. I have always liked the dresses he created.

– [Yes,] especially since Taylor Swift wore him. [But] another person will always come up as a designer.
