Your childhood is making a comeback

Put down Netflix because it is time to revisit your television. Nickelodeon has just released information on its new project called “The Splat!,” a new channel devoted to the network’s classic hits. It’s set to premiere in October, with many throwback to 1990’s Nick shows such as “The Ren & Stimpy Show” (1991-1995), “Hey Arnold!” (1996-2004) and other shows that have been missed over the years. Although the roster for what will be brought back has yet to be released, we could only hope it includes the aforementioned ones and others.
In 2011, Nickelodeon introduced the “90’s Are All That” segment on TeenNick. Stick Stickly hosted the nightly show, which started at midnight every night and played “Rugrats” (1991-2004), “Rocket Power” (1999-2004), “Hey Arnold!” (1996-2004) and “CatDog” (1998-2005).
Random special broadcasts included “Aaahh!!! Real Monsters” (1994-1997), “The Wild Thornberrys” (1998-2004), the game show “Figure It Out” (1997-2000), which made a comeback and aired from 2012 to 2013, and 12 more titles.
The Splat’s logo made appearances at ’90s Fest, along with the “Kenan & Kel” theme song artist Coolio and Nickelodeon’s famous green slime.
According to Entertainment Weekly, rumors of reboots for some of these now-retired cartoons surfaced after Nickelodeon’s president of content and development, Russell Hicks, told Variety that the network was “looking at their library to bring back ideas shows that were loved in a fresh new way.”
A website for “The Splat!” has been launched, and YouTube now offers a page devoted to the show. Twitter has also been added to the laundry list of social media platforms as another form of teasing the now-anxious 90’s generation awaiting the release of more information. On the YouTube channel, a two-minute video that was published earlier this month is only 200,000 views shy of 1 million and sports the description “Are you ready? #TheSplatIsComing.” The video shows clips from a variety of 90’s Nick shows. The latest video to be uploaded YouTube account features Tommy Pickles, making “Rugrats” a safe bet for inclusion within the revival.
