Police beat (01/17/2016-01/23/2016)

01/17/2016, 3:22 p.m.
A complainant called UPD and said they saw an occupant of a white Ford sedan throw a beer bottle at a road sign on FGCU Boulevard. A UPD officer located the subject vehicle at 4:08 p.m. in South Village and identified both of the car occupants as residents of Eagle Hall. The passenger admitted to have thrown the bottle but claimed to be unaware of hitting the sign. The officer then escorted the subjects back to the scene, so they could pick up their litter. The officer also spotted marijuana and a bottle of beer inside the car in plain sight. The officer tested the marijuana, which tested positive, and disposed of the full bottle of beer. The case was forwarded to the Dean’s Office for review.

An individual requested an officer in Mangrove Building in North Lake Village because he could not remember where he had parked his vehicle. A UPD officer arrived and helped him locate his vehicle.
01/19/2016, 9:50 p.m.
A UPD officer found a car on the top floor of Garage 1 where two individuals were engaging in sexual activities. The officer told them to stop and questioned each subject separately. Both subjects acknowledged they had been dating for a month and all activities were with consent. Then, the officer warned them both of university rules and asked them to leave.

UPD was contacted because an unmarked Lee County Sheriff’s Office unit was parked in Garage 1, but the car beside it was parked so close that the deputy was unable to get into the driver’s seat. The owner arrived and moved his vehicle.
01/22/2016, 1:08 p.m.
A 21-year-old male in North Lake Village told UPD he had consumed half a bottle of antifreeze. The mentally ill patient was taken into custody and transported to Gulf Coast Hospital for observation.
01/23/2016, 10:52 a.m.
A caller contacted UPD to report a tent by Manatee Building in West Lake Village. A UPD officer searched the area and found a red and grey Coleman tent set up to the west of the building. The tent was not on housing property, but was on university property nonetheless. The officer confiscated the tent and placed it in a garbage bag in the generator room.
01/23/2016, 6:59 p.m.
The alarm of a green Ford that was parked in front of Egret Hall in North Lake Village was going off. A UPD officer contacted the owner of the vehicle. The owner then removed all valuables from the car and left it unlocked so the alarm would not sound.

“…The mentally ill patient was taken into custody and transported to Gulf Coast Hospital for observation.” I’m pretty sure that’s majorly offensive to individuals with mental disorders, who would rather be referred to as ‘a person with a mental disorder/illness’ instead of ‘mentally ill’.
