The new shop in town

Students can get their hair cut and styled between classes at the new mobile barbershop at Florida Gulf Coast University’s student services plaza.
Highlights N Cutz will be parked in front of the bus loop every Tuesday and Wednesday between 10a.m. and 5p.m. Student body president Juan Cubillo noticed that there was a demand for a barbershop and decided to do something about it.
“Our campus is growing in diversity. My goal as president is to provide for each student’s needs,” Cubillo said. “When it is something as simple as a haircut, it is something that I need to provide.”
The barbershop functions as a private vendor and is not affiliated directly with FGCU. Each time it parks on campus, it must pay a fee to the University. The only profit that Highlights N Cutz will make is from those using its services.
Sophomore A.J. Arroyo is pleased with this new addition.
“Now I can get my hair cut by a professional and not in a bathroom in North Lake.” Arroyo said. “I really like the idea.”
The barbershop accepts both walk-ins and appointments, which students can reserve online via www.hncbarbersalon.com. The cost is $12 per haircut for both sexes. Men can also get a cut with a razor edge for $15. Highlights N Cutz also will be offering more than just haircuts. Licensed professionals are staffed to do highlights and hair dying. In addition, eyebrow waxing is offered for $10.
Senior Hannah Whyms said the barbershop is a great convenience. Whyms said. “Now I won’t have to drive to Lehigh to get my hair done anymore.”
Junior Ian Markovich, one of the first students to receive a haircut from the new barbershop. “It was quick, good and cheap,” he said. “It reminded me of a barbershop I would find up North.”
