Student arrested on rape charges

Three women allegedly attacked in campus housing

Bianca Godin didn’t know an acquaintance, Joshua Sekulic, had been arrested until she turned on the news Tuesday morning. Godin, a senior accounting major at Florida Gulf Coast University, said she never expected Sekulic, who she describes as “very polite,” would be arrested on charges of sexual battery.

“I’m really in shock,” Godin said. “Every time we hung out he was very polite and joked around.” Sekulic, a junior biology major at FGCU, was arrested Nov. 4 and accused of raping two FGCU students and attacking a third. The victims are not being identified due to the nature of the alleged crimes.

Sekulic was arrested 10 days after he allegedly attacked his first victim. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office booked Sekulic into custody of the Lee County Jail, where Tuesday night he was still being held on $250,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s website. Sekulic has been charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count of battery. He is next scheduled in court Dec. 9.

If he does post bail, Sekulic is prohibited from returning to the FGCU campus as his case moves through the court system, according to FGCU spokeswoman Susan Evans.

According to the arrest report: Two of the victims contacted the University Police Department on Nov. 2 after realizing they both had been attacked, allegedly by Sekulic. The first two victims did not know there had been a third. The first incident occurred Oct. 24, when an FGCU student said she invited Sekulic to her dorm to watch a movie. The suspect became aggressive and demanded sex, the report stated. He then began to choke her and said, “I have to do this.”

Sekulic then began to have sex with the student against her will, according to the report. “You are completely emotionless and this is how sex will be for the rest of your life,” the victim quoted Sekulic as saying during the attack. “I’ve (expletive) a Chi Omega with the lights off because she is the exact same way —emotionless. “

The student said she responded, “Maybe that is not what she wants.” After the attack, the victim said, Sekulic left.

The next attack of which Sekulic is accused occurred four days later. The report states another student invited Sekulic into her apartment. She asked him to leave after he began using her iPad. The suspect then bit the student’s right shoulder and did not let go until she punched him and told him to stop. He then threw her onto her bed, pinning her down. She told him to stop and he left, the report said. The final attack took place the night before Halloween. A third student invited Sekulic into her dorm. She said they began kissing, which led to Sekulic biting her neck and leaving bruises, according to the report. She told him to stop, but he continued biting her, she said.

The suspect told her he could force her to have sex with him if he wanted. She told him “no.” Then he forced her to have oral sex with him, she told police. He finished his attack, then left.

The scale of Sekulic’s alleged crimes is surreal to Godin, who said she met the suspect through a mutual friend. “I never thought he’d do something against a girl’s will,” Godin said. “He’s not someone I thought would be accused of this.”

This may sound a little disturbing and morbid, but before attending FGCU i was assaulted at another school. My attacker wrote me a bogus “apology” message over Facebook – just like this guy wrote bogus non apology letters. As morbid as it sounds, I will never get rid of it. It says he was trying to help me. It’s absolutely sick.
