Kangaroos, concerts and chow at JetBlue fair
The time when people get to chow down on their favorite foods, ride rides and pet some animals is on its way.
JetBlue Park, a baseball park located at Fenway South, will be having its third annual fair Nov. 6 to 22.
Marie Heisler, the spokeswoman for JetBlue Park, expects a large crowd this year.
“With the weather changing and the holidays around the corner, there’s usually a big turnout of families and kids spending the weekends together,” Heisler said.
The price of admission is $7 per person. However, with a two-for-one admission discount, the tickets are $3.50 per person. Pay-One-Price unlimited rides wristbands are also available at a discount through the website before the start of the fair for $20 each. These discounts are available at www.fairatfenway.com.
Many of the rides that appear each year at the Florida State Fair will be brought to Fort Myers.
The fair will also provide different live entertainment for attendees. A new exhibit called Kangaroo Experience will feature a collection of kangaroos for fairgoers to meet throughout each day.
A hypnotist show from Las Vegas will also take place at 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.
“The hypnotist will persuade a man to dance like Beyoncé and convince fairgoers it’s sunny at night,” Heisler said.
The fair will also feature a large petting zoo and exotic animal exhibit, which will be open all day.
“Attendees may observe lemurs, exotic birds, monkeys and dozens of creatures normally only found in the best zoos in the U.S.,” Heisler said.
Kelsey Applegarth, a junior majoring in biology, said the livestock is what she is looking forward to the most.
“I love the livestock, ”Applegarth said. “I used to show my goat in a fair back home.”
Several concerts will also be held throughout the fair hours, from 5 to 11:30 p.m. every Friday and from 1 to 11:30 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday featuring local entertainment and music/dance groups.
Heisler said a crowd favorite will also return this year — the Banana Derby.
Banana Derby is a race where monkeys dressed in jockey outfits race on trained dogs around a track.
“Fairgoers may even meet the monkeys up close for photo opportunities after the races, which are held several times a day,” Heisler said.
All of these events are free with admission unless otherwise noted.
Some of the food options that will be available for purchase are funnel cakes, zeppoles, Italian sausages and peppers, chicken on a stick, candy apples, popcorn and pizza.
