Eaglenews.org among top college websites in nation according to ACP

Eaglenews.org, the website of FGCU’s student newspaper, came in eighth place in a national competition Nov. 1.
The award was for “Best in Show” among large universities. The competition was judged by members of the Associated Collegiate Press at an ACP conference in Austin, Texas.
Eaglenews.org was one of two websites in the state of Florida that made the top 10 list — the University of Miami’s miamihurricane.com came in ninth place. The first-place ranking went to the University of North Carolina’s dailytarheel.com.

Media Editor Madison Hampton was not expecting to rank so high considering what she called the “daunting” size of other journalism programs, such as the University of Florida’s and UM’s compared to FGCU’s smaller program.

“I was nervous because we changed everything about our online presence this year,” Hampton said. “We changed our website, and our app is coming out in two weeks.”
Editor-in-chief Kelli Krebs found the ranking to be “really rewarding.”
“I’m really proud of everyone and the media team,” Krebs said. “Moving forward, I’d like to get more involvement from student writers.”
