As of today, Blind Pass Beach on Sanibel Island has had its recent ‘no swim’ advisory lifted.
Blind Pass Beach, 6497 Sanibel-Captiva Road, Sanibel Island, FL 34223, now has “good” levels of Enterococci bacteria and is considered safe for swimming and wading.
The most recent test occurred yesterday, and today’s results show these levels are back down to a safe level.
“The presence of an elevated concentration of these bacteria is an indicator of pollution, which may come from storm water runoff, pets, wildlife or sewage,” as reported in a press release from the Lee County Department of Health.
As part of the Lee County DOH’s Healthy Beaches program, 13 different beaches, including Blind Pass Beach, in Lee County are tested weekly for Enterococcus bacteria levels in the water. Zero to 35 specimens per 100 mL of water is considered good and safe for swimming and wading.
The Lee County DOH records show that the samples that called for the advisory were collected on Oct. 26 and 28 were at a poor level, containing at least 105 specimens per the 100 mL sample.
