Police Beat (1/30/2016-1/24/16)
1/30/2016 2:14 a.m.
An Everglades Hall RA in South Village called UPD, stating that there was screaming and shouting coming from a room. An officer was then advised that an 18-year-old male was having a panic attack. Lee Control Emergency Dispatch was contacted, and the subject was transported to Gulf Coast Hospital. It was revealed that the subject had previously been at a party in San Carlos Park, and once the subject reached his or her hallway, a fight broke out, and a witness was struck in the face. An officer spoke with the second subject, who was lying down and speaking incoherently, shouting “LSD” several times. The second subject was transported without incident.

A UPD officer was requested to stand by during a drug search in a bedroom in North Lake. The AOC found less than 20 grams of marijuana in bedroom C of the dorm, as well as pipes and residual trace amounts of marijuana in bedroom A. The search was then concluded.

A complainant in suite 313 of Edwards Hall stated that her debit card was stolen from her purse on Tuesday and that her card was used in the area that evening. Her bank was notified and she then made reports with Fort Myers Police and the Sheriff’s Office and wanted UPD to be aware.
1/28/16 12:13 p.m.
A complainant went to UPD and reported a text threat while at work. The subject was contacted by the officer, who then stated that he had been asked to leave his fraternity and that he was ok and had no hard feelings toward the complainant. The text read “congratulations — just be ready.” The complainant believed that it could have been threatening, but the subject stated that it wasn’t meant to be threatening; rather, he was letting the complainant know that he was expelled from the fraternity. The subject was told not to send any texts to that number.

A complainant called UPD, stating that he or she was stuck in an Eagle Hall elevator in South Village. Lee Control Emergency Dispatch was contacted, and the front desk was notified, and the on-duty desk assistants put barricades down on the elevator entrance. The fire department arrived on the scene, the elevator was turned off for the night and the student was freed.
1/26/16 2:44 p.m.
As stated in reports, a complainant called UPD, stating that a raccoon was spotted in Garage 4. An officer stated that the raccoon is gone.
1/25/16 1:43 p.m.
A Bus driver on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway stated to UPD that a white female wearing black on the bus appeared to be disoriented. The subject was escorted to Wells Fargo Bank at Miromar Outlets by an officer. It was revealed that the subject is a new student who was confused about her location and the location of the bank.
1/24/16 9:25 p.m.
A complainant arrived at UPD to report a note that was left on her vehicle from a person who claimed to have witnessed another vehicle hitting hers on the first floor of Garage B in South Village. An officer met with the owner of the second vehicle as well as the owner of the first vehicle at Osprey Hall in South Village and issued a notice to appear on court to the driver for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage without leaving information.
1/24/16 2:16 a.m.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office called UPD, reporting that 10 subjects in the intersection of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway and FGCU Boulevard were fighting. An officer located the subjects at the fire station south of the main entrance. LCSO was informed that the incident was caused by road rage. The incident involved a white Mustang and a dark colored SUV, but the Mustang drove off before officers arrived. The vehicle was not located.
