Alliance for the Arts hosted its 12th year of Peace Day on Sunday, Sept. 21. This was a free event in honor of International Day of Peace.
This year’s theme was “Unity in commUnity…bridging the gaps between us,” in efforts to recognize that world peace starts with uniting our local communities. Local vendors, businesses, organizations and non-profits set up booths to interact with the community and inspire people to get involved in opportunities that will bring the community together.
Some of these companies who also helped sponsor the event included: Art & Soul Tattoo, What’s Up SWFL, Iona Cannabis Clinic of Ft. Myers and more.
This event also featured live musicians, artists, performance groups, vendors and plenty of food trucks as well. Local food pantries excepted donations of dry and canned food goods, and The Big Red Bus was also onsite accepting blood donations.
International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) was established in 1981 by the United Nations as a day for “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.” This year’s global theme was “Climate Action for Peace” highlighting the importance of tackling climate change to protect and promote peace.
SWFL Peace Day started with 300 participants in the first year and is now enjoyed by thousands in its 12th year. This event welcomes people of all ages and includes family and pet friendly activities every year.
