Enfield departure not the end

Enfield+departure+not+the+end

Katie Rice
Communication, senior
I am writing in response to the April 3 article “Andy Enfield leaves FGCU to accept head coaching position at USC.” I am saddened to see Coach Enfield leave so soon after all the Sweet Sixteen excitement.
He has been an asset to the men’s basketball team and the FGCU community for the past two years. Once the news of his departure to University of Southern California broke, Facebook and Twitter erupted with angry posts from students claiming he is betraying FGCU.
I hope after reading this article our students have a better understanding of why he is leaving and realize that it is what’s best for his family and his career.
As a graduating senior, I have seen a lot of changes in FGCU, but none have been as exciting or impactful as what our men’s basketball team has done.
FGCU is no longer the hidden gem of Florida. We have become a household name and definitely gave University of Florida a run for their money in last Friday’s game.
Even though Enfield has left, he was not the one winning those games for us. Our team will continue to succeed no matter whom the new coach ends up being.
