Slow life down, keep priorities in check

There’s a song from the country group Alabama that came out in 1992 called “I’m In A Hurry (And Don’t Know Why),” that speaks volumes over 20 years after its first release.
Society is in a race that seems endlessly on a quest for success.
Society is more often than not being pushed to the limit in a daily grind to success that, due to many powerful forces, has taught us to work harder, longer and at a moment’s notice, often for little pay and with lack of benefits.
One problem is that Americans make time an enemy.
They often make every single thing urgent when some things are not urgent. Being on time is very important , but making every assignment a race against the clock takes away the ability to accomplish something with effective results.
Much of the stress is created by the stressed themselves because of fear of failure or desire to be a people pleaser. In an interview with Marie Claire magazine, one woman described how being in a rush has affected her life: “I often feel like I’m doing a juggling act. One friend wants help moving, another asks if I can pick up her car from the shop, then my boyfriend wants quality time. I always say yes because I want to be a good friend and girlfriend, but I end up feeling drained.”
The power of saying no is as powerful as saying yes, and in some cases, saying no means that people have control over their lives. The person who knows when to say no is likely able to manage time better.
The person who can manage time better doesn’t lack sleep and is not in a rush to get from point A to point B. That person is also able to live in the now by deciphering what is important in the moment.
Americans need to slow down a little bit and think before they act in certain situations. Always being in a rush could lead to problems at work, including getting fired, getting into a car accident or losing touch with friends or family.
Priorities have to be in check and life must not be treated like a race. It was movie character Ferris Bueller who once said: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
