The FGCU women’s soccer team (3-3-0) was able to depend on senior Marjorie Boilesen’s two goals as they shutout Ball State (5-2-0) 2-0 at the FGCU Soccer Complex.

The Eagles were applying pressure on the opposition immediately as Evdokia Popadoniva took the first shot of the match only a few minutes into the contest. The offense would continue to break through the Ball State back-line as both freshman Louise Lillback and redshirt-junior Megan Young each took on target shots but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Boilesen would break the silence and score the first goal of the match in the 31st minute to give FGCU the 1-0 advantage. Lillback and sophomore Kara Kyramarios assisted on the goal, as Boilesen would tack on her third score of the season.

The Eagles would into the halftime break with the 1-0 lead and a shot advantage of 8-1 over the Ball State Cardinals.

Coming out of the break, FGCU looked to continue their early dominance and we’re given a boost as the starting keeper for Ball State was issued a red card just minutes into the second half. Boilesen was awarded a free-kick for the Eagles and she took full advantage of the opportunity by scoring her second goal of the match.

With a 10 player disadvantage, Ball State wasn’t able to get any sort of rhythm going throughout the match until the 63rd minute when senior goalkeeper Melissa Weck was tested by the Cardinals. Weck was able to tack on her first save of the night and her third shutout of the season as the game came to a close.

Boilesen’s two goals against Ball State gave FGCU the 2-0 victory and now puts her just two goals away from cracking the top five of the all-time scoring list for FGCU.

The Eagles will stay at home as they host Creighton (5-1-0) on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m., the first time the two programs have played each other.
