FGCU men’s soccer wins third straight defeating UCF 3-1

On Wednesday night the FGCU men’s soccer team earned its third consecutive win, defeating UCF on the road.
Just four minutes into the FGCU vs. UCF men’s soccer game, FGCU’s Thomas Delplace was stretchered off the field. Later, Delplace was diagnosed with a broken leg and is unlikely to return to the pitch this season. Caleb George replaced him.
14 minutes passed after the injury and both teams were knotted up at two in the shots category.
20 minutes into the game, UCF had three huge chances, but they were met by the hands of Sawyer Jackman.
39 minutes in, Justin Gavin put a cross into the box that was met by Dennis Zapata, who placed the ball in the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
As halftime came about, FGCU lead UCF 1-0.
As the ball kicked off for the second half, the teams went back and forth, trading chances.
In the 57-minute mark Dennis Zapata’s pass found Arion Sobers-Assue’s chest, laying the ball off to Robert Ferrer who fired the ball passed UCF goalkeeper Matt Rosenberg, pushing FGCU’s lead to 2-0.
3 minutes following the goal, UCF had a chance to cut the lead, but Jackman picked up yet another save.
65 minutes in, previous goal scorer, Robert Ferrer’s shot struck the crossbar but Sobers-Assue claimed the ball off the rebound, heading it past the keeper, extending the lead to 3-0.
After 74 minutes gone in the match UCF’s Jesus Colombo finally found the back of the net cutting to cut the Eagles lead down to 3-1.
As a scoreless 16 minutes was played until the whistle blew, confirming FGCU’s third straight win.
After their third straight win, the Eagles will be tested once again on Saturday at they host UNC Wilmington.
