Making cross country program history

The FGCU women’s cross country team recently competed at the USF Invitational, where the team took an outstanding first-place finish. The Eagles came together to put on a season-best performance, winning the meet by an impressive amount. The team finished 26 points ahead of runner-up and host USF.
Following the impressive Tampa performance, the team holds its highest ranking in program history, sitting at No. 12 in the USTFCCCA South region rankings. The program now ranks above powerhouses such as No. 13 Georgia Tech.
Senior Lauren Tarovisky finished fourth overall in the 6K race in a time of 21:54.90, earning the fourth-best time in program history and leading the Eagles to historic success. Six other FGCU runners finished in the top 21 of the invitational. Senior Morgan Reichert ran her second consecutive top-10 finish in a time of 22:28.30.
“It’s always a nice bonus to be recognized and to continue to move up in the polls,” said head coach Cassandra Goodson in an FGCU press release. “The women’s team has worked incredibly hard. They’ve done a very good job of running strong
together and staying positive through the whole season. I’m not just proud of what they’ve done; I’m proud of who they are.”
Through all four meets this fall, the Eagles have finished in the top three and ahead of four regionally ranked programs including No. 6 FSU, No. 7 Florida, then-No. 13 UCF and then-No. 14 Jacksonville.
FGCU will look to take its momentum into the A-Sun Conference Championships, hosted by UNF at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30 The Eagles competed on the championship course earlier this season at the UNF Invitational and went 4-1 in the double dual meet.
