The FGCU men’s soccer team (8-7-2) defeated the Stetson University Hatters by a score of 4-2, Saturday night, in the team’s last regular-season game. With the win, FGCU secured the second seed for the Atlantic Sun men’s soccer tournament.
FGCU’s first goal of the game came in the 20th minute from Ivan Rosales off an assist from Shak Adams. Rosales’ goal tally now stands at three for the season.
O’Vonte Mullings doubled the Eagles’ lead as he outpaced the Hatters backline and calmly slotted his shot past the goalkeeper into the far post in the 26th minute.
Stetson then cut the deficit back down to one when Ajmeer Spengler scored his second goal of the season in the 35th minute.
The second half started strong for FGCU as Shak Adams got onto the scoresheet with a goal of his own from a header off a free kick handled by Kareem Riley in the 56th minute.
Adams then secured his brace in the 82nd minute of the game from a deflected shot by Ryan Medilah. Medilah was credited with an assist for the effort.
Stetson then scored a second goal that will go down as a consolation goal from Brock Exline in the 85th minute.
Adams’ assist ties him with Josey Portillo for most assists over a career at FGCU with 15.
FGCU returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. in the ASUN Semi-finals and will meet the winner of the ASUN Quarterfinals between the University of North Florida and Liberty University.
