Preview: Women’s basketball vs Ave Maria

Going 0-3 in its first three matchups in the Gulf Coast Showcase at Germain Arena, the FGCU women’s basketball team welcomes Ave Maria to Alico Arena on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m., for its final game of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

The Gyrenes, currently 2-4, come into their matchup with the Eagles for their third game in four days, after facing Johnson & Wales Dec. 1 and St. Thomas Dec. 3 before traveling to Alico Arena.

Coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak, the Eagles have struggled to limit its opponents’ scoring.

After allowing its opponents to score 58 points per game in their first seven games last season, FGCU has allowed its opponents to average 68.6 points per game.

Holding a 1-0 all-time record over Ave Maria, FGCU defeated the Gyrenes 102-54 the last time these two teams met on the hardwood on Nov. 23, 2014 at Alico Arena.

While the growing pains have been evident for the new faced FGCU side, the Eagles will look to snap their four-game losing streak and steer their season in the right direction with a win over Ave Maria.
