The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team (5-1) lost to the University of Houston Cougars, 204-142, in a dual meet Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
Petra Halmai picked up the first two wins for the Eagles, winning the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:17.22 and the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:59.39. Halmai’s time in the 400-yard IM meets the requirements for the NCAA B-cuts and was over 10 seconds faster than the other opponents.
Reese Wakefield took first place in the three-meter dive with a score of 313.50. Wakefield’s score qualifies her for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
At the end of the action on Friday, the Eagles trailed the Cougars by a score of 117-69.
Halmai, Lucija Sulenta, Cassidy Fry and Wiktoria Czarnecka brought home FGCU’s first points of the day with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay.
Kaja Reinhart achieved a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.11, which is her new personal record.
FGCU was able to take second through fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard fly.
Wakefield took second in the one-meter diving event with a score of 270.08. Through six meets in her freshman season, Wakefield has achieved diving scores that have met the standard of the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in the three-meter dive and the one-meter dive.
The FGCU swimming and diving team now travel to Ohio where the Eagles will compete against Marshall and Toledo on Friday, Nov. 8, and then travel to Michigan to compete against Oakland and Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 9.
