The FGCU women’s swimming and diving team (8-8-1) lost in a dual meet to Florida International University (6-3) by a score of 201-95, Saturday afternoon, at the FGCU Aquatics Complex.
The Eagles achieved first place in three out of the 16 events of the meet. Wiktoria Czarnecka secured FGCU’s first, first-place finish, in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.92 seconds.
Czarnecka finished the meet with nine points, trailing Elizabeth Zeiger with 15 points and Petra Halmai with 12 points.
Halmai finished in first-place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.46 seconds. Halmai’s time meets the requirements to be an NCAA B-cut time.
Liz Zeiger capped off FGCU’s first-place finishes by winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.95 seconds.
Prior to the meet, Cassidy Fry, Emily Glinecke, Madison Jean, Natalie Keffer, Elizabeth White and Elizabeth Zeiger were honored during the Senior Day celebration.
“It’s a special day when you get to celebrate the careers of your senior class,” said head coach Dave Rollins. “For Liz (Zeiger) to be able to complete her career at home with a win was fantastic and for our seniors to compete in a senior-only relay was really special.”
The swim team’s next meet is at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships taking place from February 19 through February 22, while the diving team heads to FIU for South Florida Diving Invite on February 7 before competing at the CCSA Championships.
